THE APP
Transforming a classroom distraction into an educational powerhouse, "A Touch of History" is a game-changing app developed in collaboration between Samsung and the PH Zug. Breaking away from the traditional view that smartphones are detrimental to education, this app harnesses the tech-savvy tendencies of students. Through a simulated interface, learners navigate the "smartphones" of historical figures, engaging with interactive chats, photos, and playlists to learn history in a way textbooks can't provide.
The key innovation here lies in the integration of technology with creative content. Students are guided through quests by answering questions to unlock new content, all gleaned from simulated text messages and other media within the historical figure's "phone." By doing so, students actively engage with information, utilizing their devices as a sophisticated learning tool rather than a mere diversion.
The feedback has been overwhelmingly constructive. Both teachers and students found the app engaging and effective for learning. The project’s success led to the release of an open-source version, enabling educational communities worldwide to contribute to and benefit from this inventive use of technology. In this venture, Samsung and PH Zug have not only elevated the role of technology in education but also set the stage for a more interactive and personalized learning experience.
